Biodiversity conservation is of particular importance for sustainable development and poverty alleviation. JRC work in this area focuses on the role of Protected Areas, and has developed the Digital Observatory for Protected Areas (DOPA). DOPA is designed to compute at the global scale a number of environmental indicators for Protected Areas and to link to other environmental modeling services for ecological forecasting. More information on DOPA can be found at http://dopa.jrc.ec.europa.eu/ .
The BIOPAMA project (www.biopama.org) is setting up observatories for protected areas and biodiversity in the ACP regions - JRC is responsible for developing the information systems that will be used in the observatories. The JRC BIOPAMA team can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org.
